About Haiying Zhang
Haiying Zhang is a Chinese English translator, founder of Little Bird Publishing in the United Kingdom. Haiying is from northern China, Harbin. Haiying came to the UK in 2002 to study the MA translation course at Middlesex University, where she graduated in 2004. Before coming to the UK, Haiying was the headteacher of Harbin Fanxing Foreign Language School between 1997-2001, where she taught English to Chinese children.
Haiying specialises in translating poetry, song lyrics and children's literature. Haiying writes her own poems and children's stories both in English and Chinese. Haiying's poetry and song lyrics translations have been published by two leading Chinese journals "Shi Kan [Poetry Periodical]" and "Ci Kan [Song Lyrics Periodical]; Haiying's English poems have been published by Forward Press in the UK since 2004, appearing in several poetry anthologies.
It was Haiying's dream to build a cultural bridge between China and the UK and her passion in translation that had led her in setting up Little Bird Publishing in the UK in 2006. Haiying works as a freelance translator and lives in Shandong province in China currently.
